Let us sing and celebrate – our English Project Week was great ! We, the 4th forms of Stiftsgymnasium Melk, really enjoyed last week. 8 English trainers from Great Britain, America and South Africa taught us not only their mother tongue but also their culture. It was so amusing playing funny games and doing awesome projects which we finally presented on Friday . We really improved our English – because we deeply immersed into it! Learning English can be so much fun! Some impressions:

Den fantastischen dritten Platz in Englisch errang Carolina Koch aus der 7CBE beim 37. niederösterreichischen Fremdsprachenwettbewerb in St. Pölten. In drei Runden trat sie mit insgesamt 31 weiteren Kandidaten aus Gymnasien aus ganz Niederösterreich bei dieser anerkannten Veranstaltung der Begabtenförderung an. Die Schulgemeinschaft gratuliert zu ihrer hervorragenden Leistung!

From March 7 to March 14, 44 students from 6C and 6D classes and their English teachers Mag. Johannes Eichhorn and Mag. Katharina Apfelthaler spent a week in Bray and explored Ireland´s capital city Dublin. Rough and challenging weather conditions (wind, rain, snow, hailstone and only occasional sunshine) did not prevent us from enjoying a Gaelic football match, the cliffwalk to Greystones and the scenery in Glendalough. Furthermore, we could improve our English both when doing projects in the language school and when having a chat with the host families.

English only - so lautet auch in diesem Schuljahr wieder das Motto der English project week. Have fun with English – diese Woche haben 120 SchülerInnen der 4. Klassen Gelegenheit mit native speakers in Kleingruppen und spannenden Workshops ihre kommunikativen Fähigkeiten zu verbessern. How do you want to spend the last school day before Christmas? Right, in a fun way! Class 6c took part in an English Workshop concentrating on communication and fun activities like singing and acting out sketches in a relaxed classroom setting. Thanks to sponsorship by Spark 7 this workshop was for free!

After spending some time doing research on FB, Twitter and Internet Addiction class 8c presented their results to class 4a and so created an eventful and entertaining but nevertheless very informative and interesting lesson using power point presentations, videos and a quiz. Class 4a loved the little treats they were given for correct answers

On Tuesday, November 27^th, the 8A attended a training session for job interviews at AMS. At the beginning Mrs. Ayse Bürgmann told us some- thing about jobs in the EU, how to find them and what EURES is (EURopean Employment Service). She also gave us some background information about insurance and the financial aspects of working abroad. During the second part Mr. War, an English native speaker, explained how to write the perfect CV and how to behave correctly in a job interview. At the end we had the chance to implement the strategies in a short role play. (Fridrich, Ziegler)  Photos 

Am Dienstag, 02. Oktober besuchten die Schülerinnen und Schüler der 2. und 3. Klassen eine Aufführung des Vienna’s English Theatre im Kolomanisaal. Die Theatergruppe inszenierte eine vereinfachte Kurzversion von von Jules Vernes “Around the world in 80 days” . zu den Fotos

Am Montag, 01. Oktober, 2012 konnten die 7. und 8. Klassen im Kolomanisaal an einem Vortrag der Amerikanischen Kulturattacheé Marlene Nice über die Amerikanischen Wahlen 2012 teilnehmen. Die SchülerInnen erhielten einen Überblick über das Amerikanische Wahlsystem sowie interessante Details zu den kommenden Wahlen im November. Danach stellte sich Mrs. Nice den kritischen Fragen der SchülerInnen.

Today some students from 7A/B/C (WPF Englisch) enjoyed delicious traditional English dishes: homemade Shephard’s Pie, freshly prepared Scones served with a lovely cup of tea and an Apple Crumble to complete our menu.

Adventurous, intensive, educational, funny, challenging, wet, chilly, surprising, communicative, entertaining, informative, eye-opening – a wonderful experience! Thank you, Cambridge!

Our English Project Week was super. We had lots of fun! We worked hard in interesting workshops.
On Friday 16th March we had a presentation party. We presented our sketches, songs, posters, films and photos to our trainers, teachers and parents.  Photos ( workshops)  more photos (presentation party).

Creative writing – Children’s stories
In the four lessons we spent together we first read some famous English children’s stories like Winnie the Pooh or Ferdinand the Bull. Then the participants wrote their own stories for children. Some even rhymed their texts. The results are utterly worth reading! Go and read the stories like The Sugar Shock, The Dog and the Frog or Jakob’s Friend. They are on display somewhere along the school corridors! Fotos
