6CD – Language Week in Dublin City

„I wanted real adventures to happen to myself. But real adventures, I reflected, do not happen to people who remain at home: they must be sought abroad.“ (James Joyce, Dubliners)

Fifty-one students of 6CD and their English teachers Mag. Brigitte Kern, Mag. Juliana Mistlbacher and Mag. Johannes Eichhorn spent a fantastic week in Dublin, exploring the breathtakingly beautiful countryside, the secrets of Guinness Storehouse and Kilmainham Gaol and surviving Dublin’s chaotic traffic. We particularly enjoyed the Irish hospitality, an exciting Ladies Football Final in Croke Park and glorious sunshine of the Irish coast.

6AB in Eire

Classes 6A/B spent an exciting and actually quite intensive language week together with their teachers Parrer and  Sommer in Bray and Dublin. After school with their native teachers Eileen, Colette and Sean, our students explored Dublin with a guide and on their own, saw the Guiness Storehouse, visited the notorious Kilmainham Gaol (jail), and saw the world-famous monastery complex Glendalough in authentic Irish rain. Also a visit of Croke Park stadion, home of Irish games such as Gaelic football and Hurling, was part of the program.  A cliff walk along the coast from Bray to Greystones was another highlight of the week. In the evenings we did fun activities such as Irish dance, bowling and spent an evening in the cinema. Above all, we experienced the friendliness and hospitality of the Irish. Thank you Eire for a wonderful week!

English Project Week, March 11th–15th – Final Presentations

english trainersLet us sing and celebrate – our English Project Week was great ! We, the 4th forms of Stiftsgymnasium Melk, really enjoyed last week. 8 English trainers from Great Britain, America and South Africa taught us not only their mother tongue but also their culture. It was so amusing playing funny games and doing awesome projects which we finally presented on Friday . We really improved our English – because we deeply immersed into it! Learning English can be so much fun! Some impressions:

6CD spent a week in Dublin/Bray, March 2013

It was cold weather, but in spite of the cold they wandered up and down the roads… (James Joyce, Dubliners)

From March 7 to March 14, 44 students from 6C and 6D classes and their English teachers Mag. Johannes Eichhorn and Mag. Katharina Apfelthaler spent a week in Bray and explored Ireland´s capital city Dublin. Rough and challenging weather conditions (wind, rain, snow, hailstone and only occasional sunshine) did not prevent us from enjoying a Gaelic football match, the cliffwalk to Greystones and the scenery in Glendalough. Furthermore, we could improve our English both when doing projects in the language school and when having a chat with the host families.

After spending some time doing research on FB, Twitter and Internet Addiction class 8c presented their results to class 4a and so created an eventful and entertaining but nevertheless very informative and interesting lesson using power point presentations, videos and a quiz. Class 4a loved the little treats they were given for correct answers 🙂

On Tuesday, November 27th, the 8A attended a training session for job interviews at AMS. At the beginning Mrs. Ayse Bürgmann told us some- thing about jobs in the EU, how to find them and what EURES is (EURopean Employment Service). She also gave us some background information about insurance and the financial aspects of working abroad. During the second part Mr. War, an English native speaker, explained how to write the perfect CV and how to behave correctly in a job interview.
